Overdraft Services

Effective July 1, 2010, new federal regulation requires Alaska USA to obtain your authorization to continue to provide you overdraft services on your debit card transactions.

Overdraft Services

Alaska USA provides these services on a case-by-case basis to members, covering debit card transactions that would otherwise be declined due to insufficient funds. Consider those times when your checking account balance might be a little short - at the gas pump, the grocery store, or when dining out. A declined transaction could be inconvenient or embarrassing.

If you would like to continue to be eligible for overdraft services on your debit card transactions, you should authorize this service as soon as possible.

To authorize

Carefully read the following information about overdraft services and complete the form below.

If you do not wish to authorize

If you do not wish to authorize overdraft services on your debit card transactions, they will automatically end on June 30, 2010, as required by the new federal regulation. In this case, if you do not have sufficient funds in your checking account when making a debit card transaction, your purchase will be declined at the point of sale.

What you need to know about overdrafts and overdraft fees at Alaska USA

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  1. We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account (see details below).
  2. We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account, money market or credit line, which may be less expensive than standard overdraft practices. (learn more about Overdraft Protection)

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number.
  • Automatic bill payments.

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following type of transaction unless you authorize us (see below):

  • Debit card transactions.

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Alaska USA pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of $20 each time we pay an overdraft.
  • If a transaction would overdraw your account less than $20, the overdraft fee is waived for that transaction.
  • There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.

What if I want Alaska USA to authorize and pay overdrafts on debit card transactions?
